5 Signs Your Child Should See a Pediatric Dentist
Children's dental needs are different from adults', and knowing when to seek professional advice can make all the difference. Here are five signs that it's time to book an appointment.
First, persistent toothache. If your child complains of tooth pain that doesn't go away, it could indicate decay or infection. Don't wait for it to resolve on its own — early treatment prevents more serious problems.
Second, difficulty chewing or eating. If your child is avoiding certain foods, chewing on one side, or complaining of pain when eating, there may be an underlying dental issue that needs attention.
Third, bleeding or swollen gums. While occasional bleeding can happen with enthusiastic brushing, persistent bleeding or red, puffy gums may be a sign of gum disease, even in children.
Fourth, delayed tooth eruption. If your child's teeth seem to be coming through much later than expected, or adult teeth are growing in behind baby teeth, a dental assessment can help identify any concerns. Fifth, thumb sucking past age four — prolonged habits can affect tooth alignment and jaw development.
